TOKO Talk in FENIX - How Migration Enriched the Country's Culinary Landscape

On June 12, Spring Onion Atelier joined TOKO Talks at FENIX for a conversation titled “Expanding the Dutch Palate: How Migration Enriched the Country's Culinary Landscape.”

Initiated and moderated by Lelani Lewis, this edition of TOKO Talks explored how immigration, colonialism, and globalization have shaped today’s rich and diverse Dutch food scene.

As a researcher and architect, co-founder Yang Zhang reflected on the Dutch food landscape through the lens of migration and colonial history. Speaking also from her experience as an expat from China, she shared how food can act as a powerful cultural connector for newcomers.

Food is more than sustenance, it is a lens for understanding society. In the project Migrating Flavors, Spring Onion Atelier translated this idea into three interactive round tables that visualized the social connections made possible through the movement of ingredients and tastes across borders.
