“Holding her Fall” to Be Featured at Placemaking Week Europe 2025 in Reggio Emilia
The research initiative Holding Her Fall has been selected to take part in Placemaking Week Europe 2025, which will be held from 23–26 September 2025 in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
As part of the program, the team will create an Interactive Fiction installation and urban game in a local playground to engage visitors with the lived experiences of aging women across cultures.
Rooted in cross-cultural research in Ethiopia, China, Italy, and the Netherlands, Holding Her Fall explores how gender, migration histories, caregiving, and economic inequality shape everyday life and visibility in public spaces. For the Reggio Emilia installation, fragments of personal stories gathered during the project will be transformed into tactile and narrative elements that invite playful discovery and reflection.
Participants will move through a series of interactive fiction designed to evoke the textures and experience of aging, care, and belonging. By combining storytelling with embodied experience, the installation encourages visitors of all ages to consider how society can become more inclusive and responsive to older women.
Placemaking Week Europe 2025 will bring together practitioners, researchers, and communities to reimagine public spaces across the continent. Holding Her Fall is proud to contribute to this dialogue and to showcase how creative methods can amplify voices often overlooked in urban life.
